  • Planned and hosted second annual Robomania event in partnership with the Peoria Public Library. Expanded activities to include hands-on science experiment stations that represented different aspects of engineering. 5 local FRC teams, and 1 local FLL team joined us for the event.

RoboMania – Learning about non-Newtonian fluids

  • Planned and hosted second annual Robo Rumble event in partnership with the Peoria Riverfront Museum.  Expanded activities to include hands-on science experiment stations that represented different aspects of engineering. 6 area FRC teams, 1 area FTC team, and 1 area FLL team joined us for the event.  In partnership with the Peoria Academy of Sciences, this event was also part of the annual Summer Science Treasure Hunt program.
  • Taught LEGO workshops for the Peoria Riverfront Museum summer program
  • Scheduled local middle school visits to demonstrate robot and talk about FIRST programs
  • Discover Manufacturing Careers Expo – demonstrated robot and set up exhibits about FIRST programs
  • Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day, sponsored by Caterpillar Women’s Initiative Network (WIN) – female students of our team created and conducted decision-making activity for junior high girls attending the event
  • PACK Expo, Chicago – demonstrated robot and spoke with attendees about FIRST programs
  • 4-county 4-H Clover Clinic at Illinois Central College – demonstrated robot and encouraged members to participate in 4-H Robotics curriculum and explore FIRST programs
  • In support of the inaugural Central Illinois Regional FRC competition, designed and distributed over 4,000 flyers and business card invitations.  Personal letters were sent to area middle and high school science and technology teachers, specifically targeting communities that do not yet have FRC or FTC teams.
  • Planned and taught 3rd annual multi-session Library Robotics summer program in partnership with the Peoria Public Library

  • With a grant from Kroger, designed and built a Caterpillar vehicle out of canned and boxed goods in the lobby of the Caterpillar Visitors Center to promote the month-long City-Link food drive to benefit Friendship House Food Pantry.
  • Mentored 1 FLL team
  • Volunteered at FLL Regional at Bradley University: event coordinator, registration, line cueing, timekeeper, and event photographer. Demonstrated robot and spoke to FLL participants about additional FIRST programs.

  • Planned and implemented a “Robotics in the Library” event for young children
  • Mentored 1 local FLL team

  • Assisted rookie team 4212, Techno-ferrets
  • Provided technical assistance, spare parts, and support to rookie team 4143, MARS/WARS
  • Presentation to Advance Planning & Concepts/Product Development & Global Technology Division at Caterpillar
  • Recruited students and mentors at the APACHE Homeschool Convention
  • Joint presentation with Team 4143 to local 4-H club
  • Presentation to IT sectional meeting at Caterpillar
  • Presentation to EAA meeting (international conference) via Caterpillar (provided local team information to interested parties from Shanghai, Milwaukee, Chennai, and Griffin)
  • Partnered with Caterpillar IT department to develop base PC imaging process used on all Caterpillar computers loaned to FIRST teams (30 teams, over 150 PCs).  Inter-team support is provided by 1736 mentors.

  • Demonstrated robot at Central Illinois Robotics Club (CIRC) event
  • In partnership with Caterpillar, exhibited our robot in the Governor’s Tent at the Illinois State Fair
  • Participated in FIRST light bulb sales, donated money to Habitat for Humanity (our team was 100% funded by Caterpillar in 2011)
  • Students and mentors partnered together to work a Habitat for Humanity build day
  • Students and mentors participated in the Illinois River Cleanup day
